A man, Nnaji Sunday Okechukwu, allegedly beheaded his gilfriend, Chinaza Jona, in her apartment and escaped with their seven-month-old baby in Gyadina, Abuja.
According to neighbours and relatives, Okechukwu and Jona had a history of quarrels and fights before the incident happened.
A relative of Jona, Justina Ugwuoke, said on the night Jona was killed she was involved in a brutal fight with Okechukwu over custody of their seven-month-baby. The next morning, Ugwuoke said neighbours saw Okechukwu lock Jona’s apartment and left alone with a travelling bag. She said neighbours then rushed to Jona’s apartment, found a spare key and met her body lying on the bed with her head almost cut off.
Ugwoke said neighbours called police from Gwagwa station, who came immediately, took pictures and carried the body to hospital.
Ugwuoke said Jona, an indigene of Okwuato in Abo-Mbaise Locag Government Area of Imo State, owned a local beer parlour.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abuja Command, DSP Altine Daniel, who confirmed the incident, said the case has been transferred the Criminal Investigation Department.
